Abstract

Mental health and stress management have become significant concerns among
learners and communities in the contemporary world due to academic pressure,
social expectations, economic uncertainty, and rapid lifestyle changes. Mental
health literacy, which includes knowledge, beliefs, and understanding about mental
well-being and psychological disorders, plays a vital role in enabling individuals to
recognize stress, seek help, and adopt healthy coping strategies. Education serves as
one of the most effective means of promoting mental health literacy and stress
management among learners and the wider community. This paper examines the
role of education in creating awareness about mental health, reducing stigma, and
equipping individuals with practical stress management skills. It highlights how
schools, colleges, and community-based educational programmes can help learners
identify symptoms of stress, anxiety, and emotional imbalance at an early stage. The
study also explores the importance of integrating mental health education into the
curriculum through counselling services, life-skill training, mindfulness practices,
emotional intelligence, and peer-support systems. The paper further discusses the
contribution of teachers, parents, educational institutions, and community
organizations in building supportive environments that encourage open
communication and psychological well-being. Special emphasis is placed on the need
for inclusive and culturally sensitive educational approaches, particularly in rural
and semi-urban communities where awareness regarding mental health remains
limited. The study concludes that mental health literacy and stress management
education are essential for improving learners’ emotional resilience, academic
performance, and social relationships.
